Alvesa Chavez

February 26, 1935 — November 13, 2023

Alvesa Chavez, our beautiful mother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 13, 2023.

She was born on February 26, 1935 in San Angelo, TX. to Erineo and Minerva Ronquillo.

Growing up she attended Jefferson Elementary, Washington Jr. High, and East Bakersfield High class of 1953 being the first in her family to graduate. She always attended her class reunions and was excited to attend her 70th this year in September.

She has always been a fighter and survivor. When she was 17 she spent time away from her family for treatment of tuberculosis in Keene, CA. In 1997 she survived a brain aneurysm and told us she saw Jesus and said she had to return home, her work wasn’t done yet.

While attending high school at age 16 she met her one and only love, Gilbert M. Chavez. When she was recovering in Keene, Dad did his tour in Germany during the Korean conflict. When he returned they were married on September 24, 1955 and celebrated 50 wonderful years together.

In 1956 they started their family welcoming their 6 children where Mom and Dad created a loving and busy home life on Bernard Street, with Dad working and Mom doing the heavy lifting at home. In those formative years they built a strong and loving bond that is still unbreakable to this day.

Mom loved learning and teaching, she volunteered as a tutor teaching the youth at the Kern County Juvenile Hall to read. She worked as a teacher’s aide with ESL students at College Heights Elementary and she always loved being a Sunday school teacher at her church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gilbert, daughter Adele, son Paul, 6 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Our mom will be missed by her children, Kathy, Gilbert (Andrea), Robert (Stephanie), Lorraine, and son-in-law Gabriel Dorado; grand-children, Robert Jr. (Brenda), Destiny (Rudy), Ryan (Kevin), Nicholas, Ashley (Cameron), Corinna (Adam), Emily (Gunnar), and Michael; and great grand-children, Dominic, Luke, Paulina, Zackary, R.J., Railey, Jacob, Eliza, and Callan.

She is survived by her sisters, Victoria Behill, Ruth Lujan, and Frances Jaquez; brothers Dan Ronquillo (Margaret) and Richard Ronquillo; her faithful sister in law Bertha Chavez; and many nieces and nephews who loved her very much.

The services will be on November 27, 2023 at Wesley United Methodist Church,

1314 Oswell Street, Bakersfield, CA 93305. Viewing will be from 9:00am-10:00am and service at 10:30am.

Our family would like to thank all family and friends that reached out to us with support, prayers, and much love. The doctors and fabulous nurses that cared for her and a special thank you to Dallas and Nicole Vaquera for their gift to help bring mom home.

God bless you all, the Chavez Family
