Delia Hawkins

January 1, 1923 — December 2, 2023

Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Nancy Cordilla Hawkins, although most knew her as “Granny”. She graced this earth just 29 days shy of 101 years, a true testament to her resilience, strength, determination and most of all, heart.  Although we mourn her departure, let us focus on the profound impact she had on all our lives.

Granny was born in Stuart, Oklahoma, on Jan 1, 1923, to parents Roy and Minnie May Foster. She had 5siblings: Melinda, Georgie, Lester, Dessie, and Flora-Lee. Born into a different era, Granny witnessed a century of change and progress. She grew up surrounded by love in the warm embrace of a larger family, with parents who instilled the values of kindness, compassion, and hard work. Throughout her years, she faced the inevitable heartache of losing both her parents, all of her siblings, and two husbands, she still persevered with unwavering courage and a grace that inspired those around her.

Her legacy lives on through her 4 loving children, Carolyn Bridges (Husband: Jimmy), Joyce Travis (Husband: Lester), Linda Yohn (Husband: Ron) and Danny (Wife: Susie). Granny’s kids were the guiding light of her life. She devoted every ounce of her being to their happiness and well-being. Granny showered her children with boundless love and instilled in them the core values that she held dear. She reassured them with her gentle nature, her wise words, and she taught life lessons that guided them through their own journeys. Her 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and her 33 great-great grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. Seeing the successes of her lineage brought a sense of immense happiness and were her source of strength. She was both a caring and dedicated mother, and as a result, her children grew up knowing the true meaning of love and the importance of family. These same core values continue to be passed down to her numerous grandchildren still today.

Beyond her role as a devoted wife, mother, and grand-mother, Granny treasured relationships with her extended family and friends. Her infectious  laughter and warm demeanor made everyone she crossed paths with feel like family. This was especially true of her best friends: Arlene Birks, and Jackie Bess. She possessed an undeniable ability to uplift spirits, bringing joy to the darkest of days. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and her compassion extended beyond family to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Throughout her long life, Granny embraced the world around her. She witnessed momentous events and technological advancements. From no phones to cell phones, and everything else that redefined the way we live today, she remained constant in her principles -unwavering in her devotion to family and love.

As we say farewell to Granny, let us not only remember the incredible woman she was but also strive to emulate her remarkable qualities. Let's honor and uphold the unique traits that defined her, honoring her loving spirit, her kindness, and her dedication to family. Though our hearts ache with her absence, we are comforted knowing that she is finally reunited with her departed loved ones, resting eternally in their embrace. May she find everlasting peace in the loving arms of the divine.

Farewell, Granny. Your legacy lives on within the hearts of those you held dear. Thank you for blessing us with your presence, guidance, and love throughout all of our lives. As we embark on our respective journeys, may we continue to carry forward your memory, your wisdom, and your determined spirit within us.

Rest in peace, Granny. We Love You
