Dorothy Sue Green passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15th, 2022, at the age of 95 surrounded by her family. A viewing is planned for 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 27th, at Basham Funeral Care, (3312 Niles Street). A crypt side service, at noon will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary (9101 Kern Canyon Road). A memorial service is planned for 10:00 am, December 28th at Valley Baptist Church, the Fruitvale Campus. A reception and lunch will follow. Sue was the daughter of Logan & Ruth Brand of Wylie, Texas and was born on March 31st, 1927. Loving wife of 61 years, she joins her devoted husband Edward Green to stroll over Heaven where all troubles and heartaches are vanished away, and all things are new (to paraphrase a favorite song of Sue's).
Sue was daughter, cousin, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, friend, Sunday school teacher, mentor, and family matriarch. With a twinkle in her eye, a quick wit, and a natural beauty both inside and out, she touched everybody she encountered and poured out love, commitment, humor, compassion, laughter, and tears into all her relationships – in short, she was a remarkable person.
The love of her life was her high school sweetheart, Ed Green, a marriage of 61 years that weathered all, never wavering in commitment, love, or belief in each other. Her pride and joy were her son and daughter, Gary Green and wife Sharon, and Lisa Green and husband Don Fairchild; and grandchildren, Beth and husband Tommy, Chris and wife Rachel, Brandon and life companion Crystal, Brady and wife Kalina; and great grandchildren, Ethan, Benjamin, William, and Makayla. She deeply loved and cared for her brother, JL Brand and sister-in-law Nancy Brand, and their family; son Barry and Carla and children Lindsey Sue and John (and daughter Parker), Jessica, Eric, and Cara; daughter Jana and Tom Reph and son Jonathan.
Favorite memories include Easter egg hunts, countless trips to Disneyland (even well into her 70’s), trips to the beach and swimming lessons, walks in her well-tended garden, and intense games of Aggravation with the kids or Rummikub with her lady friends — Sue was a fun and fierce competitor. So that there could be more time spent with family, Sue and Ed bought condominiums in Incline Village, Nevada where family and friends would gather to ski. Gary and Lisa's families got to know their Uncle J.L. and Aunt Nancy and cousins Barry and Jana on the slopes when the family shared winter vacations together.
Sue enjoyed close and lifelong friendships with her cousins, friends, and fellow classmates from Plano High’s Class of “44”. Many fond memories shared with cousins Tommie Lee, Betty, Mary and loving friendship with Ed’s younger cousin, Linda Durham. Special thanks to Rose Stilwell, Naomi Whitmer, Kelly Carter, Mary Terry, Denise Allen, Peggy Rose, Barry Brand, Dr. Tom Lee and wife Barbra, Ignacio & Mely Martinez and children, Candance Hayes and children, and Faith Busby and girls, who have been of such help and provided great support.
Equally important and evident in Sue’s life was her love of God and her church community. Sue served as Sunday school teacher at North Heights Baptist Church and currently attends Valley Baptist Church where she and Ed generously contributed to its growth and development.
We take comfort in knowing that Sue is rejoined with Ed where they are strolling over heaven tonight and watching over us with continued love and blessings.
