Obituary for Fernando Albiar 8.11.1951 - 12.16.2023

Fernando Javier Albiar passed away on December 16, 2023 at the age of 72 after a decade long, hard fought battle with Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Olga Molina Albiar. Fernando's legacy is carried on by his son Fernando and daughter-in-law Rebecca, his son Javier and daughter-in-law Susana, and his cherished daughter, Micaela Albiar. His love extended deeply to his five granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

Fernando is further survived by his sisters Minerva, Graciela, Ninfa, and Emma. He is preceded in death by his parents, Agapito and Manuela Albiar, and brother Albert.

Fernando was born on August 11, 1951 and was raised in the Mexican Colony of Shafter, CA.  He graduated from Shafter High School with the Class of 1969. He joined the Northern California Carpenters Union, working out of San Jose in his early twenties before returning to Shafter to raise his family.  With the Southern California Carpenters Union, he built several homes in the Bakersfield area along with working on several governmental and commercial projects.  His experience in construction would lead him to work for the California Department of Corrections as a vocational education instructor.

Fernando’s passion for the outdoors was a vital part of his being. His backpacking stories from the Sierra's and Mineral King not only fascinated those around him but served as a testament to his adventurous spirit and zest for life. In the year prior to undergoing open heart surgery, he led a group of Boy Scouts from Shafter on a 50 mile backpacking trip through the John Muir Wilderness. Despite facing disabilities later in life, his unwavering determination proved how limitations could never hinder his love for fitness or his pursuit of exploration.

Fernando touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of positivity, tenacity, and determination. He will be deeply missed, remembered for his adventurous spirit, hard work, compassion and the permanent mark he made on our hearts.

A celebration of life will be held for Fernando on Friday, February 16, 2024.  Questions for the family can be sent to [email protected].
