After falling ill in May, Judy lost a hard-fought battle and went home to be with the Lord.
Judy was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Herman and Dorothy Speer. At a young age Judy moved with her family to Bakersfield. She was one of six siblings. Initially, Judy, her siblings and parents lived in a small house on Gage Street. They eventually moved to Quincy, across from East Bakersfield High School. Judy attended local schools, Jefferson and Washington and graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1957. She married Gary Meaglia in 1959. She is survived by her sister Gay Speer, her daughter Mikki Meaglia Riella and Son-in-Law Rick Riella, four grandchildren Mallory Boreham, Edward Boreham Ill (Ned}, Dominic Riella and Sabrina Riella, her two great grandchildren, Tryniti and Alex, and her two golden doodles Cody and Cooper.
Judy had various jobs but worked many years at The Bakersfield Racquet Club and then as bookkeeper at Laurel Glen Tennis Club. During her life she was an avid reader, an enthusiastic tennis player, loved to travel and was a faithful Christian. Judy was a long-time member of Fruitvale Community Church which transitioned to Riverlakes Community Church. She was always active in various Bible Study groups and Ladies Fellowship. Her relationship with the Lord was her highest priority.
Judy had many family members and friends that loved her, and she will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all the staff at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. They would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Hoffman Hospice.
