Maria Elena Castañón gained her wings on January 18, 2025, at the age of 59. She was a caring and beloved partner, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Maria Elena Castañón was born on May 30, 1965, in Bakersfield, CA, to her loving parents, Jose and Virginia Castañón. As the eldest of three siblings, she embraced her role with warmth, strength, and devotion. Maria lived a full and beautiful life, bringing joy and kindness to all who knew her. Throughout her career, she worked in many roles, always with dedication and a generous heart. Beyond work, Maria found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—whether it was testing her luck with lotto scratchers, enjoying the thrill of a casino visit, or casting a fishing line into peaceful waters. But nothing brought her greater joy than the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren. Maria especially loved taking her grandchildren on walks with their grandpa and cherished dogs—Lobo, Shakira, and Oso—strolling together around the paths of Lake Ming and Hart Park. These simple yet treasured moments were filled with laughter and love. Each grandchild created precious memories that will live on in their hearts forever. Her love was boundless, her presence irreplaceable, and her family will hold her close always. She is survived by her mother Virginia Rodriguez Castañón, her brother Jose Castañón, her partner of 37 years, Jose Luis Rangel; two daughters, Teresa Guillen (Isidro) and Annette Lucy Rangel (Ramon); three sons, Jose Elias Hernandez, Jose Luis Rangel Jr. (Lorena), and Ruben Anthony Rangel (Laney); and her 14 beautiful grandchildren, who will miss their kind, loving, and humorous grandma immensely. Maria is preceded in death by her father, Jose Jasso Castañón, and her sister, Adrianna Castañón, along with many other family members. Although Maria is gone, she will live in our hearts forever, and her spirit will walk alongside her family and friends always.
