Michelle Coats

Michelle Coats September 2, 1954 - September 11, 2022, Born in Bakersfield on September 2, 1954 to Wayne & Jean Smith. Michelle attended Munsey Elementary, Curran Jr. High, and West High School graduating in 1972. She received a BS Degree in Dental Hygiene from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in 1978. Upon graduation Michelle moved back to Bakersfield where she worked as a Dental Hygienist for 25 years. She married Kim Coats in Bakersfield on January 3, 1976. Kim and Michelle were long time members of Olive Drive Church, now Disciples Church, where Michelle was involved with the Kid’s Ministry, Quilting Ministry, and for the last several years the Pillowcase Ministry. She is survived by husband Kim, children Travis (Tracie), and Trevor, grandchildren Tristin (Kimmy), Tatum, Jaxon, and Allison, sisters Tamara Sholes (David), and Lisa Smith Burgess, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne Smith and E. Jean Smith, brother Kenton Michael Smith, and granddaughter Tessa Coats. Services will be held at Disciples Church, 4500 Rosedale Lane, Bakersfield, CA on Saturday, September 24 at 11:00 AM.
