Rosendo Hernandez

July 13, 1930 — December 30, 2015

Rosendo Hernandez passed away in the early hours of December 30, 2015 surrounded by his closest loved ones. He was born in Del Rio, Texas on July 13, 1930, the oldest of five, to Clemente and Maria Hernandez, then moved to Bakersfield, California. He started as a young child working to help his family with their sheep-shearing business and harvesting produce. After he finished his studies at East High School, Rosen do enlisted in the US Army. With a proud service in the Korean War, he received four Bronze Stars for his spearheading the destruction of an enemy outpost as a mortar cannon operator.

Rosendo returned to Bakersfield in 1957 where he met his wife, Annette with whom he would begin to build a beautiful life and family with. Rosendo retired after 42 years in the postal service and spent his time lovingly with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. With all of his knowledge of the world and his love of culture and politics, combined with his incredible experiences, he became both a storyteller and the man anybody could call upon.

Rosendo made it a point to be as involved in every member of his family's life as much as possible, and made every one of his children feel like shining stars. He was our anchor and he felt like home. Rosendo left an article he had cut out with these words highlighted: "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." Our hearts do ache and he is truly missed, but his love has left each of us with a bittersweet smile on our face. He is survived by his loving wife Annette, his four children, Cindy and her husband Bobby, Teresa and her husband Terry, Joaquin, Roman and his wife Michele, his 19 grandchildren and great grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Zachary, Porscha, Karlie, Austin, Taylor, Tesla, Ashleigh, Steven, Mackenzie, Francesca, Romy, Killian, Channing, Brandon, Ryan, Adrian, and Emmett, and his two brothers, Baldimar and Clemente Hernandez.

A Graveside Service will be held on January 6, 2015 at Bakersfield National Cemetery (30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd) at 10:45 a.m., with a reception to follow. For additional information please contact Basham Funeral Care at 873-8200.
