Russell Allen Towes

Our father, Russell Towes, left this world on January 26^th surrounded by his two daughters and he was welcomed into heaven by his wife, Lowana.    Russ was born on January 2, 1942. Left to cherish his memory are his children Michelle (Jeff) Green, Nathan (Krista) Towes and Dawn Towes.  Plus those who called him Papa include Jeffery and Connor Green, Melysa Nixon, Rachel Luttrell, Morgan Towes, Eastyn Towes plus great grandchildren Hunter and Bentley. Additionally, brothers Mike and Jeff Williams.  Dad was raised in Shafter but spent his adult life in Bakersfield.  He served his Country with pride and valor from 1963 - 1966.  Our dad had many passions but the favorite would be spending time with his kids and grandkids. His relationships with each of us was individualized.  Michelle and dad enjoying going to Nascar races, Nathan and Dad were avid fisherman and did so competitively, Dawn and Dad loved the gambling that could be had at casinos.  Some of his happiest moments were had camping with his family and friends, where you find a fierce game of dominoes 42.  Under Dad’s gruff exterior was a heart of love and softness for all he knew and called family or friend.  Russ loved watching his kids play sports and did not want to miss a game.  Though he will be missed greatly here on earth our family celebrates his heavenly reunion with mom, his family who went on, his camping crew,  and church friends. He may now be listening with love as Lowana is telling him what to do or perhaps he is enjoying telling old stories about tennis, setting up a round of domino play, or just glowing in the love of the one he has missed the most.   Funeral services will be held at First Assembly of God in the Blue Chapel on Saturday, February 4^th at 2:00 pm.  Graveside burial will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mt. Blvd., Arvin, Ca. on Monday, February 6^th at 10:00 am.  The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hoffmann Hospice.
