In loving memory of Stephen James Porter

Stephen (Steve) James Porter (75) was called home on November 1st, 2023 in Bakersfield, CA. He was born on February 21st, 1948 in Long Beach, CA, to George Leonidas Porter and Doralene June Porter.

Steve graduated high school his junior year, in 1965, and then attended Chaffey Community College. He soon listed in the Air Force and served six years,1966-1972, as Sergeant Porter, a missile electronic systems specialist at Vandenberg Air Force Base. After serving his term he worked hard supporting his family, working for Petrolite as a plant foreman then later moving to Bakersfield.

During his retirement years, Steve's passion was spending time enjoying life with his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, researching his family genealogy, completing his family tree, and reconnecting with his distant cousins and the many friends he had since childhood.

Steve was a loving family man. On July 4th, 1970, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Ruthie, of 53 years. Together they had two beautiful children, Janette Torres and Marc Porter. He is survived by his wife, children, and five grandchildren: Tiana Torres, Trevor Torres, Mercedez Porter, Madison Porter, and Marlow Porter, and his spirit will live on forever through each of them.

Steve was preceded in death and is welcomed home by his father, George Leonidas Porter and mother, Doralene June Porter and his two brothers, George Taylor Porter and Robert Leroy Calvin Porter, all of whom he loved so dearly.

Let us celebrate and remember Steve's life as a continuous light that will shine with us forever and always. Let us cherish the memories, his laughter, and the joy he gave us. His love for his family and friends will always be with us and may his memories bless our lives forever.
