Susan Emilia Novickas Obituary Susan Emilia Smith was born on November 17, 1949 in Wahoo, Nebraska, to Jack Franklin Smith and Maxine Rose Dixon Smith. She passed from this life on April 7, 2023, at age 73, in Bakersfield, California. She moved with her family from Nebraska to Yuma, Arizona, then to El Centro, California, and later Escondido, California. She went to college at Azuza Pacific Christian College in 1967. There she met the love of her life William Joseph Novickas. They married in 1969 and welcomed their daughter Robin Ann Novickas late that same year. Susan moved with her family to Bakersfield in 1973. She was a devout Christian and attended several churches in town, University Avenue Christian Church, Fruitvale Community Church where she was a Women’s Bible Study Fellowship leader for many years. Fruitvale changed its name to Riverlakes Community Church when it relocated to a larger church campus. Most recently Susan along with her husband Bill were bible study small group leaders in their home for Resurrection Church. She retired from the Insurance Business in 2009, and her husband retired in 2022. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary earlier this year. She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Novickas, and her daughter, Robin Ann Chambers, her son-in-law Richard Chambers, grandson Richard “Aaron” Chambers II, her sister LuAnn Smith-Dolan, and brother-in-law, John Dolan, her nephew, Seth Dolan, her brother Curtis Smith, her niece, Jennifer Smith, her nephew, Curtis Smith Jr., her nephew, Scott Smith, her niece Trisha Tucker, nephew Robbie Simons, her brother-in law, Thomas Novickas, her niece Cheri Ayala, and nephew John Novickas and their families. A celebration of life will be held on May 6, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Resurrection Church, and she will have her interment at the National Cemetery, in Arvin, California on May 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
