William Denton Bates, aged 82, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on May 20, 2024. Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, he later settled in Southern California, which he proudly called home. As a civil engineer, Denton was honored for 50 years of service, showcasing his expertise and dedication to his career. Throughout his work across the country, he befriended many people and was known as an excellent mentor, leader, and colleague who loved his job. He was always eager to tackle new challenges and find solutions to any problems that arose.
Denton was a loving and caring husband to Isabel and a dedicated father to Karla and Kimberly. He was also a devoted grandfather to Kaylyn and Rose. He also left behind his stepdaughter, Cindy, and her children, Christina, Tracy, and Nicholas from his previous marriage to his late wife, Nancy. Denton dedicated his life to always placing his family first, even during his last moments.
Married to his wife Isabel for 26 years, Denton faced the challenges of illness, which God used as an opportunity to reveal to him the true meaning of love, devotion, commitment, and dedication that a marriage can bring. For 14 years, Isabel was Denton’s caregiver, a role she embraced with humility and grace, truly exemplifying their vows "in sickness and in health." He leaves this world knowing the depth of love from his wife, children, grandchildren, and loved ones.
Denton's passion for discovery and knowledge led him to the Lord during his final months on Earth. He rests peacefully, assured of his spirit's destination. Now an angel in Heaven, he watches over his family, who find comfort in God's promise that they will all be reunited with him once again.
Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
