Zachariah “Zach” Aust

Zachariah Aust, 38, passed away on November 22nd, 2023 at Adventist Health Hospital in Bakersfield, California. He was born on July 28th, 1985 to Arthur Aust and Sheri Miles. 

Zach grew up in Bishop, California and spent a lot of time at his Grammy and Paw's general store as a child. Zach graduated from Bishop Union High School in 2003. After high school, he attended CSU Bakersfield where he studied political science, worked with the CSUB University Police, and joined the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. 

He met his future wife, Aime, at a social his fraternity was hosting in 2006. They became friends and began dating in November of 2008. Zach and Aime got engaged July 4th, 2016 and married March 18th, 2017 with all of their loved ones present. They lived happily together for 15 years. 

Zach loved watching his favorite football team, the San Francisco 49ers play and hoped to see them win the Super Bowl. He enjoyed playing with and collecting Magic the Gathering trading cards and became a cologne aficionado, adding hundreds of bottles to his collection. 

For the last 7 years, Zach has worked for Steinhoff International as a salesman for Mattress Firm and Furniture Firm. In 2017, Zach joined their Events and Expositions team, and traveled all across the United States earning the Million Dollar Writer achievement award, multiple years in a row. He enjoyed his work very much and cared for the people he worked with, namely, his good friend Chase. 

Zach is survived by his wife, Aime Aust, of Wasco, California, his mother Sheri Miles of Bishop, California, sister Melodie Aust of Bishop, California, sister in law Elsa Frausto and husband Andrew Frausto of Bakersfield, California, sister in law Maria Torres and husband Ernesto Miranda of Wasco, California, brother in law Miguel Torres and wife Yanira Romero of Wasco, California, sister in law Lorena Stotts and husband Guy Stotts, as well as eleven nieces and nephews: Leonardo Torres, Alaina Frausto, Tyler Stotts, Yaitzel Torres, Maylee Ruiz, Anabelle Stotts, Andrew Logan Frausto, Adelina "Mamas" Frausto, Jaiden Torres, Jordan Torres, and Kaylee Miranda all of Wasco and Bakersfield, California whom he loved very much. 

Zach was preceded in death by his cousin, Cody Hatcher, his mother in law, Elsa Torres, his uncle, Roy L. Ryce Jr., and his paw, John H. Swain. 

A funeral service will be held at Basham & Lara Funeral Care located at 343 State Ave, Shafter, CA. Viewing will be held, Wednesday, December 6th from 5-8pm with the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6pm. Chapel services will be held the following day, Thursday, December 7th at 12 noon at Basham & Lara Funeral Care. Interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Cemetery at 2pm. 

Zach's wife, Aime, would like to thank all of their immediate and extended family who has stepped in and handled so much of the planning and communication, and who haven't left her side during this time. She would also like to thank Zach's close friends Gerad Leavitt, Paul Sibley, and Chase Goodvin for being such a vital part of Zach's life, Zach's co-workers, Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity, the staff of Agapeland Christian Academy, and all who have held the family up in prayer and love.
